Who We Are‎ > ‎

Durham University

Founded in 1832, Durham is the third oldest university in England and one of the UK’s most prestigious. Durham is a World Top 100 University (QS World Rankings) and ranked 4th in the UK (The Guardian University Guide 2018). Based around a 10th century cathedral and a UNESCO World Heritage site, we are a university that always has been forward-thinking with modern values but long traditions.

Our 25 departments and schools offer over 200 undergraduate and 130 taught postgraduate programmes, as well as many postgraduate research opportunities.

As a collegiate university, our 16 college communities are at the heart of our distinctive student experience, each offering a diverse interdisciplinary community of academics, students and staff from different backgrounds and cultures. We place high importance on extra-curricular activities and have over 200 clubs and societies. We were also named the Times and Sunday Times Sports University of the Year 2015.
